Modular Layout
A group of us in the Leicester branch of the N Gauge Society have got together to design a modular layout that can be exhibited in different configurations. Each module is 4ft long by 2ft wide, with an extra 8in width at the back for the return lines. Any layout will be completed by two end boards, and there is a design for a corner board that will allow us to lay the different modules round a corner.
The two outer main lines (one in each direction) will be controlled separately, and run straight through the modules. The third line will have access to each module, so trains on that line will need to be controlled either by a module, or by a central controller. Our friend Mike Collins has designed a switching system to allow this.
My new main line will eventually be made up of a double module (with through station and branch line, plus hidden sidings on the return lines at the back), plus a single module round the corner, joined by a corner piece and two end pieces. Meanwhile, work has started on the single module, Castle Brewery.
